About Us

North Shore Stars is a not-for-profit girls volleyball club dedicated to the athletic and personal development of young athletes in North Vancouver. Through volleyball, Stars is committed to developing young leaders in the community.

Our club was formed in 2006 to foster the physical, social and psychological growth of youth. We run 5-6 club volleyball teams between the U14 and U18 age levels, competing in various tournaments across the lower mainland as well as Nationals across Canada.

North Shore Stars recently achieved "In Good Standing" status with Volleyball BC for the 2023 club season.

Our Philosophy

Turning players into leaders through volleyball!

Each player is encouraged to do her best within her abilities on and off the court. We emphasize positive reinforcement to build confidence and self-esteem in each player.

Our hope is to provide a service to help foster continued love for the sport of volleyball and apply the lessons learned both on and off the court. We will strive to develop the abilities of each player within the concept of a team.

We are committed to keep the focus on equal participation, cooperation, sports”woman”ship, responsibility and to have fun. It is all about the learning and fun!

Our Commitment to Leadership and the Community

The North Shore Stars are a little different from other club volleyball teams. We believe in developing leadership in young girls through more than just volleyball, including:

  • Modeling leadership through our coaching and team activities
  • Supporting community development through contributions to local non-profits and charities throughout the season as a part of our fundraising activities. Each year, we drop off several bins of groceries collected during tryouts to the Harvest Project. We donated $1,000 to Athletics 4 Kids (A4K) as a result of our 2017 fundraising efforts.
  • Encouraging and mentoring former Stars players to be junior coaches

All that and great volleyball too!

Fees & Fundraising

Volleyball is an expensive sport. If you make a team, you can expect to pay from $1,000 to $2,000 for the season, depending on your age. Older players typically play higher fees.

If you make a team, the base fee will be from $650 to $800. There are also additional costs for out-of-town tournaments where hotel or air travel is required. These costs can range from about $200 to $1,000 for the season, depending on the player age and location of tournaments.

The club conducts two key fundraising events each season to offset the cost of participation:

  • Serve-a-thon which is run by players and requires players to seek pledges
  • Pub Night for parents and friends, including silent auction

At this time, we do not offer scholarships or financial assistance. However, there are organizations that can help, such as Athletes for Kids (A4K) and Jumpstart.

Sponsorship

The North Shore Stars would not be possible without the help of our amazing sponsors. Many thanks to our past and current sponsors for their support and generosity. However, we are always actively seeking sponsorship for our current and future seasons to help cover the cost of jerseys, equipment, gym rentals, tournament fees, etc.
